Handbuch der Paläoherpetologie – Encyclopedia of Paleoherpetology

In the past several decades a considerable body of new findings relating to the fossil remains of early amphibious animals and reptiles has been developed. The body of evidence has compelled a revaluation of the evolutionary history of these two vertebrate groups. The Encyclopedia of Paleoherpetology summarizes these new findings in a coherent fashion as they refer particularly to the taxonomy and morphology of these two groups. All the species and families are classifed. Gaps in the fossil record are indicated. Phylogeny of the various species is detailed as fully as the record will permit. The implications of paleoherpetology for paleobiology are dealt with by some of the contributions. The Encyclopedia contains illustrations for the majority of amphibians and reptiles discussed.
